Artist Statement

As fine artist, my work is inspired by the beauty of everyday life. I collage live sketches to make meaning around community, nature, value, loss, and humor. I have a soft spot for the “frivolous” subjects that often relegate femme artists to the world of “the decorative.” I see the world around me as not only a subject to be celebrated and reflected upon, but also as a vehicle for formal concerns such as texture, color, and composition.

In my painting practice, I collage sketches to craft intricate and impossible spaces comprised of weird little blind drawings that capture the speed of drawing them in-the-moment. A way of making memories tangible.

Recently I’ve been seeing connections between my work and scenic picture books like I-Spy, Where’s Waldo, and Richard Scarry. Large groups of people, and complicated buildings pieced together through memory.

Much of my print design work focuses on historical references crafted with a more contemporaty and painterly hand. Although, I am eager to unite the two practices, I still see distinct commercial value in the more edited print designs.

I spend a lot of time working on professional theater projects in the Broadway community outside of my art and design practice. Hobby wise, I love watching educational youtube videos about construction, medicine, applied math, and the natural sciences, oh and watching people play sims.

Best of all, I have two orange cats and am lucky to have found an incredible woman I love and can’t wait to raise children with one day.
